Motherhood Blessing

A Ceremony celebrating a Woman’s Passage into Motherhood

What is a Motherhood blessing?

Also known as a Blessingway.

Blessing the Way for Motherhood or A Baby Shower. What’s the difference?

A baby shower is the closest event to A BLESSINGWAY that people participate in today. It is a wonderful and practical occasion -a chance to gather family and friends to share in a celebration for the coming of a new baby, and it is an opportunity to provide the expectant mother (or couple) with many of the items necessary to care for a newborn. A baby shower’s primary purpose is focused on the baby that is on the way.

A BLESSINGWAY is different from a baby shower in essence because it offers the chance to come together in a spiritual setting and share in sacred time of reflection, support and celebration that is focused on the mother with child. It doesn’t matter if this is your first child or your fifth child. We get to celebrate and honour each pregnancy and birth.

Motherhood is a mystical and blessed time and revered in many cultures. We have just forgotten how to nurture this precious journey with the expectant mother. It is time to reclaim the sacredness of pregnancy.

The BLESSINGWAY ceremonies main goals are to honour the mother to be and to create a circle of support that will cradle her as she prepares to give birth two and mother her child. This ceremony becomes your gift to her.

As the new baby grows within the womb, we know that the very first sound they hear is the sound of the Mother’s heartbeat. The baby is immersed in the sound of her heartbeat for 9 months whilst safely cocooned inside the womb.

The heartbeat is a rhythm that we all share, our own inner drum, so it’s only natural that the drums become a part of our sacred Blessing way ceremony.

During the ceremony we pass through five stages to support the mother. This includes processes such as a cleansing ritual, opening to the Divine, connecting with others in the circle, Honouring and Sharing Her- Story, Blessings, Chanting and Drumming, along with other mindful processes.

As an elder within my own family, I have travelled many paths of emotional, spiritual , mental and physical growth, which has often been challenging. These challenges have offered me an opportunity to understand and hold such a depth of wisdom about being a woman in this world and finding a  place of peace within.

This enables me to hold the space and support women in this ceremony which celebrates a woman’s passage into Motherhood.   Our Mothers are rising!

My journey of passing through the cycles of being a female elder include:

I AM the second child in a family of 8 children.

I AM a mother who has birthed 4 children. I have miscarried. I have managed (not very well) the intensity of a child with a physical abnormality at birth.

I AM a teacher who has taught hundreds of students over 40 years. Disability is my strength.

I AM a grandmother and still I AM a child of the Universe.

Motherhood is a rite of passage for women and I care deeply that we start to recognise and celebrate these life changing transitions in a sacred and ceremonial way.
