Are you ready to Birth your Medicine Drum?

River Drums are Medicine Drums made in the tradition of the Native Americans. They are uniquely and individually Hand Crafted  in the Riverland of South Australia.

In the small and quaint town of Berri, as these Medicine Drums are Birthed, the connection to the River, Trees, Stones, Animals and Birds are used in ceremony in this magical process.

The essence of these River Drums brings with them the flowing and powerful energy of the River Murray and Mother Earth. Forever shifting and changing but always soothing and calming.

Create your own sacred Rattle made in the tradition and style of the Native American

In the same traditional style of making a Medicine Drum, the rattles bring with them the the essence and of cleansing. According to anthropologist Angeles Arrien, the rattle is humankind’s imitation of rain, and the movement of the rattle provides a cleansing and purification of your own nature.

The rattle is moved up and down in front of your body using long vertical and horizontal motions. It is also used in wide circular motions on either side of your body - calling back your dynamic and magnetic nature.

Rattles have been used by indigenous cultures across the world for wellness, ceremony and music.
The Rattles that we make are made in the same style and tradition as the Native Americans, which includes honouring the origin of the natural materials of animal hide, wood and seeds used in this creative process.
The Seed Rattle that we make is known to represent abundance and knowledge and is closely connected to the elements of wind and water. Playing the rattle often creates a sound like the rain and symbolises the clearing away of all that no longer serves us and brings us back to our centre - of who we are.

We will learn the different sounds of the rattle, how we make these sounds and how the rattle for balancing energies.

I spent a wonderful day with Anne-Marie , making two rattles.
We began with a lovely smudging ceremony. The process was deeply moving as we selected our Deer hide and stick, and then choosing materials etc to create our own unique rattle.- to take home and decorate at a later stage.
Mine are in my hallway and each time I see the rattles it reminds me of all they symbolise and the day we spent together.
Thank you

Birthing a drum with Anne-Marie was a very spiritual journey for me. I was impressed with how connected she made me feel to my own family structure during the birthing. I really felt I had been able to bring my family’s energy into the essence of the drum. So now every time I play my beautiful drum they are part of the rhythm that comes through.
I loved all the symbolism that is used in the process of creating the drum and i now know the power that is created with each instrument that is made.
